Margetiak named local ambassador

The election has brought about some changes in the State of Ohio, but one thing is certain to remain the same: The Heritage Gardens at the Ohio Governor's Residence. These remarkable gardens feature elements of native, natural Ohio incorporated within the landscaping of the Governor's residence. Hope Taft's vision to allow visitors a foreshadowing of some of the best native places in Ohio, became a reality with the help of landscape architects, Gary Meisner and Dewey Hollister of Cincinnati, and Guy Denny, retired Ohio Division of Natural Resources Natural Area and Preserves manager. Sand dunes resembling those in the Toledo oak openings and dolomite rock outcroppings covered with native forbs similar to those in the Allegheny plains area are a few of the fantastic features of this unusual garden.

Local resident and Huron County Master Gardener Charlene Margetiak has been trained as one of only 30 Ambassadors to present programs on this horticultural jewel.

These gardens, which are part of a considerable amount of "Ohioana" maintained at the governor's residence, will continue to be on display.
