Army PFC Vanessa K. Smith graduated from basic training in Columbia, S.C. on Jan. 19.
During her nine weeks of training, the daughter of Janet Luxon of Willard, studied the Army's mission, history, tradition and core values and physical fitness.
She also received instruction and practice in, among other things, basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training.
