Today, the Republican National Committee’s Site Selection Committee announced Cleveland, Ohio will be their recommendation to host the 2016 Republican National Convention.  The RNC and Cleveland will now enter into exclusive negotiations on key details for the 2016 convention.  The Site Selection Committee's recommendation will be presented to the full Republican National Committee when they meet in Chicago in early August.   \\

The Site Selection Committee’s recommendation remains contingent on successful contract negotiations and a final vote by Republican National Committee Members at the RNC’s summer meeting in Chicago.
Following today’s announcement, Site Selection Chairwoman Enid Mickelsen and RNC Chairman Reince Priebus issued the following statements:
Site Selection Chairwoman Enid Mickelsen:

“It’s my honor to announce Cleveland as the Site Selection Committee’s recommendation to host the 2016 Republican National Convention,” said Mickelsen.  “Cleveland is a phenomenal city, and I can’t think of a better place to showcase our party and our nominee in 2016. This committee was tasked with difficult decisions and was presented with several strong options to host our convention. I’m confident Cleveland is the right pick for our next national convention. Cleveland has demonstrated they have the commitment, energy, and terrific facilities to help us deliver a history-making Republican convention.
“I extend my deepest gratitude to Dallas.  Dallas is a world class city with wonderful venues and fantastic people and I’m certain they’ll make a great host for our party in the future.  The Dallas team were excellent ambassadors for their city and showed both the committee and the RNC all the wonderful things the city has to offer.”
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus:
“A Cleveland convention offers our party a great steppingstone to the White House in 2016, and I’m encouraged by the committee’s recommendation.  The team from Cleveland has gone above and beyond the call of duty and I think they’re representative of a city eager to show the country all the fantastic things they have to offer.
“The RNC set a new standard for conventions during this process. Not only will the convention be held earlier in 2016, but there are also substantial guarantees in place for funding that put us well ahead of previous conventions and will give our nominee the best opportunity to succeed.”
“I also want to thank Dallas. The hospitality shown by their city, their team and the Republican community in Dallas has been tremendous.”

Wonder to where Cleveland's Dem admin. is gonna move all the vagrants and druggies in order to help give the illusion of an economically vibrant city?

Looking forward to seeing the Occupy Wall Street losers and other extremist Marxist ilk perform their act for the benefit of the media.

Cleveland is a great city, as long as you stay out Winnie.

I wonder how the Republicans will make available the women of the night on MLK and the Flats so the Republicans can practice their family values as Johns and their drunken antics including the extreme religious right group.

too late. the residents of lake view cemetery are all voting democrat these days..

Way to go Cleveland ! This pretty darn cool having the Kasich for President nominating convention in Cleveland.

Seems like it will be worth the ride up to see the circus that Contango points out will be happening. As we all know the circus will be out in full regalia.

As for " Lakeview " cemetery voting democratic. Well, maybe, since most were democrats in life. Still, this ain't Chicago. So, perhaps 'Lakeview' will have to rest on it's laurels as being one of the most beautiful cemetery's in all of America to attract attention.

Can't hardly wait for the convention

A beautiful cemetery? More like a mystical one. Jesus only raised once from the dead, these people buried there get to come to life every four years!

Re: "Still, this ain't Chicago."

It sure ain't: Nicer waterfront, better restaurants and 'actual' professional sports teams. :)

"Nicer waterfront, better restaurants and 'actual' professional sports teams. :) "

Ugh. Yet, another reminder like dagger to the heart of Cleveland fans. Oh well, being human, we must fight fire with fire.

At least, nothing on our waterfront reminds us constantly of our city burning to the ground like 'Navy Pier ' amongst quite a few other Chicago lakefront legends 'Daley ' remind Chicagoan's of " The Great Chicago Fire " :)

Re: "The Great Chicago Fire "

But from the ashes came the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893!

The number of World Fairs located in Cleveland is....

The new Lake Erie waterfront development? If it get financing, it'll be built on an old landfill - sweet!

Cliff Cannon

" The number of World Fairs located in Cleveland is.... " Same number of Super Bowls held in Cleveland ( or Cleveland teams that played in it ) as I recall. :(

However, do not forget Chicago's '68 democratic convention riot's took off from ' Grant Park ' which got it's foundation from where ?

Nor do not forget 'Pabst' beer got it's 'blue ribbon' in 1893 and even today no one can understand how or why.

So here's hoping, Cleveland has the visionary foresight to get this waterfront development built on an old landfill. Because, truth be told I do have to admit. The waterfront dump site from the 'Great fire' that is Chicago's lakefront, ain't to bad.

However, when it comes to sports. I must ask about the rumor you were in the box seats when the Cubs last won the world series. If so, do you really think " Tinker to Evers to Chance " was that good ?

More probable is that you distracted Leon " Bull " Durham in 1984 or pushed Steve Bartman in '03 to keep the Cubs losers. Either way, us Cleveland fan's memory's can top anything Chicago has to offer.

Other than that guy ( I think his name was Gordon or Jordon something like that ) who used to wag his tongue right before he buried another opponent.

No matter. Bottom line it appears the Republican convention is coming to Cleveland and I for one couldn't be happier

They are brave going into that Den of Thieves !

JMOP : " More like a mystical one " Funny you should mention this aspect of Lakeview cemetery, since they were 'mystical' on purpose.

Yeah, in " Wade Chapel " where once burial services were held. The coffin, rises out of the floor on a platform, so that the mourners, were reminded of 'the risen Lord's ' promise. ( Although, many folks were known to have fainted as this theatrical ending played out )

P.S. In all seriousness, to history buffs who love statuary, architecture and great views. " Lakeview " is a wonderful day trip. And in my viewpoint second only to Boston's " Mount Auburn " cemetery for beauty amongst non national cemetery's.

Kottage Kat

Elliot Ness ashes in lake at Lakeview
Ohio Nessie? ???
You run with it Mr. Family

Cliff Cannon

@ K.K. : Considering " Mr fix-it " political boss Mark Hanna is buried not far from Eliot Ness. No doubt the " Untouchable one " would like to get up and go after him.

However,at least Sen. Hanna gave America his beloved " Billy " ( McKinley ) to be President and by all accounts ' Billy ' was a pretty decent man---even for a politician. :)

Make room for the RNC attendees to practice their family values down on MLK and the Flats with the "women of the night." This should provide a wonderful entertainment value for Ohio observing the antics of all the drunken Republicans soliciting as Johns.
