Cook of the Week recipe - Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies

In a large bowl combine: 1/2 cup shortening or butter

In a large bowl combine:

1/2 cup shortening or butter

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla or 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 cup thick sour cream, can substitute butter

Sift together dry ingredients

3 1/4 cups flour

1 tsp. baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

Beat until well blended. Roll on lightly floured board to 1/4-inch thick. Place on prepared cookie sheet. Cook at 350 degrees until golden brown, about 6 to 8 minutes. Serves 2 1/2 dozen.

Butter Cream Frosting

1/2 cup butter or margarine

1/2 cup shortening

1/4 tsp. salt

1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

5 1/2 cups confectioners sugar

1/4 cup milk

Cream butter, shortening. Add vanilla and salt. Add sugar, one cup at a time. Add milk gradually beating until fluffy and light. May not require all of the milk.
