Troopers investigating double fatality

Man and woman die after being ejected from Harley Davidson that collided head-on with oncoming vehicle.

The Elyria post of the state Highway Patrol is investigating a double traffic fatality that occurred at 5:48 p.m. Sunday on Ohio 57 near Mennel Road in Grafton Township.

Robert Willis, 37, of Columbia Station, was driving a 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle west on Ohio 57 when the motorcycle went left of the center line and collided head-on with a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox being driven by Debra Harris, 59, of Grafton, troopers said.

Willis and an unidentified female passenger on the motorcycle were ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene by a Lorain County Coroner’s Office official. Their bodies were transported to Elyria Memorial Hospital by Great Lakes Transport.

Harris and her passengers, Josh Duncan, 6, and Jesse Duncan, 9, of Grafton, received minor, non-incapacitating injuries and were transported to Elyria Memorial Hospital by Grafton Township Fire / EMS. All three had been were wearing safety belts.

Helmet use and alcohol use are currently unknown as the crash remains under investigation.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Grafton Township Fire and EMS, Grafton Police Department, Lorain County Coroner’s Office and JC’s Towing.

Ohio 57 is a north-to-south route that runs east to west in the area where the crash took place.

When you hit a vehicle head on I seriously doubt a helmet would have been any use,tough thing to happen to anyone and wonder why he went left of center? That will have a bad result no matter what you hit.
