Four people were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash late Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Fitchville River and Zenobia roads.

A Nissan Altima, with four occupants, was eastbound on Zebobia Road approaching the stop sign at Fitchville River Road. The Altima failed to stop and entered the intersection, where it collided with the side of a southbound 1997 Kenworth semi, said troopers with the state Highway Patrol. The Altima came to rest on Fitchville River Road, south of the intersection.

Both vehicles caught fire after the impact. The fires immediately were extinguished by a witness at the scene with a fire extinguisher.

While the driver of the truck, Douglas E. Kreider, 36, of Seville, was not injured, all four passengers in the car were taken from the scene by ambulance.

Kreider was wearing his seat belt.

The four injured were:

Kayla M. Warrer, 24, of Sandusky, the driver of the car. She was removed from the car by Wakeman firefighters using the Jaws of Life. She was taken to Fisher-Titus Medical Center and later transported to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. She was wearing her safety belt.

Michael C. Shepperd, 31, of New London, was taken to FTMC and later transported to St. Vincent. He was in the front passenger seat and was not wearing his seat belt.

Brett T. Ziemke, 25, of Norwalk, was taken to FTMC and later transported to the University of Toledo Medical Center. He was in the right rear seat and was not wearing a seatbelt.

Matthew R. Born, 22, of Collins, was taken to FTMC and later transported to St. Vincent. He was not wearing a seat belt.

It was snowing at the time and weather conditions may have contributed to the crash, troopers said. It is not known if alcohol was a factor.

Praying for you Kayla. Keep fighting kiddo.

Praying for all involved ...thankful they ran into the side of the semi as opposed the semi running into the side of their car....fractions of seconds CAN make a world of difference between life and death...I hope life wins out for all involved!

Do they take everyone to Toledo ? Two places I would never want taken, Mansfield General or Toledo MCO.

3 of the 4 went to St V's that is in Toledo? Do you mean Toledo Hospital itself? Personally I would not want to go there. St V's is one of the best in the area.

Mansfield General? Do you mean Med-Central Mansfield?

political correctness is killing the freedom of speech... fine, i'll reword the comment.

i find it a bit curious that this accident happened just a turn and about a mile away from where some of these KIND FOLK were arrested on their way back form a drug deal back in the fall. one could speculate based on their recent behavior in the public eye that drugs and or alcohol may have been a factor in this situation, but that is mere speculation and in absolutely no way a presumption of guilt, simply just an observation of the repetitive habits of human nature serving as a theory as to what may have been a factor in the accident. i mean honestly, it was a white out. judgement must have been impaired for the driver to believe that driving in the countryside was a good idea with a a compromised visibility.
