The Norwalk Truckers boys' basketball team defeated Columbus Bishop Watterson 65-58 to win the Division II state championship Saturday at Value City Arena at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.

Norwalk (29-1) was led by senior Ben Haraway, who scored 29 points. Classmate Jeff Thomas added 18 points in Norwalk's victory over the defending state champions.

This is Norwalk's first state title in basketball, and the first in any team sport since 1989, when the Norwalk boys' volleyball team under the direction of coach Grace Hutchinson defeated Perrysburg in the state champsionship game. The 1974 Truckers won a state title in football.

A reception for the team was held later in the day. Watch the video below to see highlights from that event at Norwalk High School.

Be sure to pick up a copy of Monday's Norwalk Reflector for your championship edition. An eight-page sports section will include lots of stories and pictures about the Truckers. Plus, you will want to save the special front page highlighting this positive historic event for Norwalk. The issue is sure to be a keepsake.

Proud of the Truckers all the way from Suwanee Georgia!

Really are you ...

History was made today for Norwalk High School. As the school places this trophy in its showcase, they should place a signed team basketball in there also. So what is it? The last two years, only one loss? Wow just awesome.

1988 Norwalk Boys Volleyball team won the State Title. The article states 1974 as the last championship. I was on that team, and still have the Reflector article about it.

Awesome days for Norwalk! Very exciting last four games, especially today's final. Looking forward...they lose alot with their seniors. But, I believe this is a reload, not rebuild program. They win most of their JV games. I think Norwalk will continue to be a winning team. Congrats Norwalkians!

JIMBO2

Grew up north in Charger town. Now living in Norwalk. CONGRATS to the team, school, coaches and parents. GREAT JOB !!

I think it is more thrilling for the city of Norwalk seeing the Truckers win the State Championship than if they had seen the Browns, Indians, Cavs, or Buckeyes win championship games.

Great job Truckers! I knew it was your year. Crider did not give every SP player a ring...they were purchased for the team by the boosters or someone.
