Two suspects in a New Year’s Eve triple homicide will be arraigned today on aggravated murder charges in Barberton Municipal Court.

Michael Deon Hendon, 22, and Eric Donta Hendon, 30, both of Akron, are charged in the fatal shootings of John Kohler, 42, of Barberton, his stepdaughter, Ashley Carpenter, 18, and his son, David Carpenter-Kohler, 14.

Police said the Hendon brothers targeted Kohler’s home for a robbery. They were arrested Friday.

The teenagers died the night of the shooting from gunshot wounds to the head.

Kohler died Jan. 3. His autopsy was performed Monday.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office said Kohler also died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Kohler’s girlfriend, Ronda Blankenship, 38, is still hospitalized for a gunshot wound to the head.

The suspects remain in Summit County Jail with a bond set at $10 million each.

Barberton police said Eric Hendon served 13 years in prison for sexual battery and attempted murder, but his brother, Michael, had no felony record in Summit County.

The funeral for Ashley Carpenter and John Ernest Carpenter-Kohler will be at 7 p.m. tonight at Apostolic Church, 1717 Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Coventry Township. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m.

Funeral service for John Kohler will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Victory Chapel, 32 W. Bellisle Drive, Coventry Township. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m.
