Eddie Merlot’s Restaurants donated $13,333 to Veggie U on Wednesday to promote Classroom Garden education in elementary schools in 2014.

“Eddie Merlot’s is a long-time supporter of the Veggie U mission,” said Vicki Jenkins, marketing director for Veggie U. “They believe in the importance of teaching children how real food reaches their plate. Eddie Merlot’s and their patrons help make this happen through fundraisers, special dinners and direct donations. We are so grateful for their continued support.”

Eddie Merlot's is a premier American steakhouse featuring exceptional prime aged steaks and an extensive selection of the finest wines. Eddie Merlot’s has locations in Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Illinois and will soon open a new restaurant in Pennsylvania.

Veggie U is a non-profit children's education program inspired by farmers, chefs and educators. The program teaches the importance of nutrition and sustainable agriculture by providing interactive lesson plans with a classroom garden kit to elementary school and special needs students. A kit complete with tasting vegetables, seeds, soil, root view boxes, grow lights, a worm farm, and a 25-lesson curriculum planner with DVD gives the teacher everything needed for this hands-on program. These materials allow the student to see, hear, taste, feel and experience the process of planting, growing and harvesting a crop in their classroom. Best of all - eating the results! Over 4700 Veggie U Classroom Garden Kits have been placed in 32 states. For more information, visit www.VeggieU.org.
