A reportedly intoxicated motorist was charged with driving under the influence and having weapons while under disability in connection with a local traffic stop.

Daniel Veytsman, 37, of Cleveland Heights, also was charged at the scene with an open container violation and driving with an expired license. Norwalk Police Officer Zach O'Neil responded to the report of an intoxicated male suspect in the 100 block of Woodlawn Avenue at 3:12 a.m. Saturday.

Norwalk Assistant Law Director Scott Christophel, citing the felony charge, declined to comment on the specifics of the case. However, he said the suspect has one prior DUI conviction through Euclid Municipal Court.

After Saturday's incident, O'Neil took Veytsman to the Huron County Jail to await a bond hearing.

"The Huron County Jail was informed of the mental health issues Daniel was currently experiencing and arrangements (were made) for him to speak with a mental health professional once he is sober," the officer said in his report.

If convicted of having weapons under disability, Veytsman faces nine months to three years in prison.
