A private security guard at a Gahanna bar shot and killed an armed patron early Friday morning after an argument inside spilled into the parking lot, police say.
Gahanna police were called at 2:36 a.m. to Lounge 62 at 953 E. Johnstown Rd. by a neighbor who heard gunshots.
Outside the bar, officers found a Columbus man who had been shot several times. He died at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center at 3:11 a.m.
The names of the man who was shot and the guard have not been released. The guard, who was hired by Lounge 62, has not been charged.
Niel Jurist, public information manager for the city of Gahanna, said an argument inside the bar preceded the shooting. The guard told police that the man had threatened him once they were outside.
“It is believed the victim pulled a firearm,” Jurist said.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting police. Jurist said police are interviewing the guard and other possible witnesses. They also will review surveillance video from the shopping plaza where Lounge 62 is located, she said.
