A Monroeville man was treated and released from a local hospital after he struck a utility pole Monday afternoon on Washington Road between Drake Road and North West Street.

Barry A. Cawthorn, 58, of 288 Monroe St., was driving east on Washington Road about 5 p.m. when it was raining and the road was wet, said Sgt. Brian Gockstetter of the state Highway Patrol's Norwalk post. Cawthorn went off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole.

Cawthorn was conscious and alert and in a North Central EMS ambulance when Gockstetter arrived. Cawthorn was taken to Fisher-TItus Medical Center, where a coordinator said he wasn't listed as a patient as of Monday night.

Cawthorn's vehicle sustained moderate damage to the right front, Gockstetter said.

Cawthorn was charged with failure to control. Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected as factors in the crash, Gockstetter said.
