The Sandusky post of the state Highway Patrol is investigating a car vs. bicycle crash that occurred at 5:15 p.m. Sunday on Hancock Street near Madison Street in the city of Sandusky.

Unique D. Powell, 24, of Sandusky, was driving a 2008 Pontiac G6 sedan south on Hancock when the vehicle struck a bicycle being ridden by Carol A. Christie, 39, of Sandusky, troopers said. It is unknown at this time which direction the bicyclist was heading.

Christie suffered life-threatening injuries during the crash and was transported by Sandusky EMS to Firelands Regional Medical Center, where she then was flown by a LifeFlight helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

Powell did not suffer any injuries. The car sustained moderate front-end damage and was towed from the scene by Maag’s Towing, located in Sandusky.

Assisting agencies included Sandusky Fire Department and EMS and Sandusky Police Department.

The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, troopers said.
