A local motorcyclist was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday on U.S. 224 near Ohio 61.
Joseph A. Mitchell, 49, of 21 E. Main St., Greenwich, was listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit on Sunday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
About 11:40 a.m. Saturday, Mitchell was driving a 2008 Honda motorcycle west on U.S. 224 when Shawna K. Crooks, 23, of 320 Emerald St., Willard, pulled her 2002 Ford Ranger from the parking lot of a BP Gas station, entering Mitchell's path, said troopers with the Norwalk post of the state Highway Patrol.
Mitchell laid down his bike on its left side and slid into the front of Crooks' truck. Mitchell was ejected from his bike and stopped in the roadway, troopers said. After the collision, Mitchell's bike continued westbound and came to rest on the berm.
Mitchell, who was wearing a helmet, sustained incapacitating injuries. He was transported to Mercy Willard Hospital. A medical helicopter later flew him to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.
Crooks was wearing her safety belt and wasn't injured in the crash, troopers said. Her truck was driven from the scene.
The motorcycle was towed from the scene by Clark Brothers.
Willard Fire & Rescue and Clark Brother's Towing assisted troopers at the scene.
Crooks was charged with failure to yield from a private driveway.
