AVERY — An EHOVE Career Center student from Monroeville High School was killed this morning as his mother was driving him to school.
A tractor-trailer heading west on Strecker Road hit a car heading north on Kelley Road. Dustin Bajerski, of rural Bellevue, was pronounced dead at the scene. Bajerski's mother, Lynn Haab, and the truck driver were injured, and both were taken to Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk.
The driver of the truck, which is owned by Zeiter's Trucking Inc. at 2606 Ohio 18, Norwalk, lost control after the collision, drove off the right side of the road, spun around 180 degrees off to the left side, knocking down a utility pole. The car came to a stop in the field on the left side of the road.
Local reports indicate the collision closed down the intersection of Strecker and Kelley roads. Authorities expect the intersection to be closed through the day.
Lt. Gregory Greggila and the assistant Sandusky post commander, as well as Erie County sheriff’s deputies, were on scene as of press time.
Carol Zeiter, owner of Zeiter’s Trucking, said her driver was not cited in the accident. She said Haab ran a stop sign and the truck driver lost control of the truck after the two vehicles collided. She said the truck driver was still being checked out at Fisher-Titus this afternoon.
Zeiter said the driver, whose name she would not release, has an excellent safety record and many years experience truck driving.
