MILAN - A medical helicopter flew a Milan motorist to a Toledo hospital after a one-vehicle crash on Ohio 13 early Saturday morning.

Ryan T. Tinnel, 20, of 1312 Horn Road, was trapped in his 2007 Mazda MX-3 and had to be freed using the Jaws of Life. Troopers with the Sandusky post of the state Highway Patrol suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash that remains under investigation.

"He's been released from the hospital; I do know that. I'm not sure if troopers have made contact with him or not," a dispatcher said this morning.

Tinnel was heading south on Ohio 13 about 4:30 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a slight curve. He went off the right side, hit a road sign, then went up an embankment before the Mazda went airborne and hit a tree, troopers said.

After freeing Tinnel from the vehicle, authorities had him flown to the Medical University of Ohio Medical Center in Toledo. Troopers had the Mazda, which sustained severe damage, towed from the scene.

No charges have been filed as of press time.
