Toys for Tots helps children in this area

This year, Marine Corps Reserve units assisted by local community organizations will collect more than 15 million toys and distribute them to more than 6.6 million children. 'Tis the time of year when the U.S. Marine Corps tries to brighten youngsters' Christmas.

The effort is called the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.

This year, Marine Corps Reserve units assisted by local community organizations will collect more than 15 million toys and distribute them to more than 6.6 million children.

Locally, the program is in its 11th year.

Last year, local marines assisted more than 3,500 Huron and Erie county children by collecting more than 6,500 toys that were distributed to local charities in Bellevue, New London, Norwalk, Sandusky, Vermilion and Willard.
