Blood pressure screenings

Fisher-Titus Medical Center nurses will offer blood pressure screenings to the public in November at various locations throughout local communities.

Times and locations include:

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Wal-Mart, 340 Westwind Drive, Norwalk.

From 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Giant Eagle, 80 Whittlesey Ave., Norwalk.

From 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 9 at Milan Public Library, 19 E. Church St., Milan.

From 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at Bennett Pointe Senior Apartment Homes, 11 Bennett Lane (off Stower Lane), Norwalk.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 15 at Schild's IGA, 171 Milan Ave., Norwalk.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 29 at Apples, 205 Milan Ave., Norwalk.

From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed noon to 1 p.m.) Monday to Friday at Fisher-Titus Specialty Services, 111 E. Main St., New London.

Great American Smokeout

FTMC is committed to helping persons become smoke and tobacco free and celebrates the Great American Smokeout Nov. 15 with the following activities:

* Get advice or have your questions answered by FTMC Respiratory Therapists by calling (419) 668-8101 Ext. 8449 or toll free (800) 589-3862 ext. 8449 on Nov. 15.

* Join a Stop Smoking Class. Get information about FTMC's five-week class that will run on Thursdays beginning Nov. 8 to Dec. 6 (the third class will be Nov 21 because of Thanksgiving). Call (419) 668-8101, ext. 6320 for more information.

* Visit our self-guided interactive smoking cessation program. FTMC's Pulmonary Medicine department provides smokers with a way to stop smoking through its self-guided smoking cessation program. Created by former smokers, the five-week online program offers professionally designed techniques to help smokers stop smoking. The course also provides a support coordinator available to answer questions on the program. To get started, participants log on towww.ftmc.com/stopsmoking. In addition, a Correspondence Course version is available for those without access to the Web site. For more information call (419) 663-1975, ext. 6320.

The American Cancer Society has the Great American Smokeout each November to help smokers quit cigarettes for at least one day in hopes they will quit forever.

CPR re-certification

Fisher-Titus Medical Center will offer a Healthcare Provider CPR re-certification training class from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the hospital, 272 Benedict Ave., Norwalk. The cost is $15.

Heartsaver CPR

Fisher-Titus Medical Center is offering Heartsaver CPR training from 6 to 10 p.m. Nov. 8, at the hospital, 272 Benedict Ave., Norwalk.

Participants will learn CPR, breathing, resuscitation techniques and choking response techniques. To register or for more information call FTMC at (419) 660-2646. Fisher-Titus Medical Center hosts the following support groups, all of which are free and open to the general public:

The Alzheimer's Support Group will meet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 29. For more information call the hospital at (419) 663-1975, ext. 6379.

The Breastfeeding Support Group is offered in conjunction with the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) Clinic. Those interested can attend at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Huron County health department or at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center. The Caring and Sharing Cancer Support Group will not meet this month, but for more information call the hospital at (419) 663-1975, ext. 6417.

The Diabetes Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. Nov. 28 and the topic will be "Cooking for the Holidays". For more information call the hospital at (419) 660-2596.
