City eyes new high bridge

Norwalk has apparently abandoned plans to modify the Linwood Bridge with city income tax funds and instead has named replacement of the bridge as its top priority item for use of State Issue 1 Funds.

Service Director William V. Mount, Bellevue Service Director A.A. Westrick and Willard City Manager G. Michael Orenic met with the Huron County Commissioners Thursday afternoon to present their lists of projects eligible for state financing. Voters last year approved highway bonds to eliminate municipal traffic bottlenecks.

Boost to students

Informal discussion of "The Dollars for Scholars" scholarship loan program followed a preliminary meeting Thursday night. Pictured in the paper at the meeting were Chamber of Commerce President Edward Still, School Superintendent Albion V. Gotaas, Secondary Supervisor James Loughridge, and "Dollars for Scholars" national board member Bob Longsworth.

League's top fullbacks c

The two top fullbacks in the Firelands Conference will meet head-on tonight when Mapleton invades Monroeville for both squad's final game of the season.

Eagles fullback Denny Smith is the league's leading scorer with 56 points while Mountie fullback Jim Reynolds heads the rushing department with 938 yards.

Three St. Paul High School quarterbacks and three fullbacks stand with Coach Mike Gottfried. They are quarterback Chris Amato, fullback Harold "Cookie" Gilchrist, quarterback Jeff Fields, fullback Don Coletta, quarterback Chris Mushett and fullback Jack Lodermeier.
