The Sandusky post of the state Highway Patrol isinvestigating a fatal crash that occurred at 2:10 p.m. today on East 2nd Street in Port Clinton.

Stacy E. Kleinhans, 55, of Port Clinton, was driving a 2001 Ford Windstar minivan west on 2nd Street when she drove off the right side of the road just east of Fulton Street and came back on the road just prior to accelerating through the Fulton Street intersection, troopers said. Kleinhans again drove off the right side of the road and struck two traffic signs, two small trees and a trash bin. The minivan then struck a large tree, stopping the vehicle.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ottawa County deputy coroner.

Also killed in the crash was the driver’s pet dog.

Kleinhans was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, troopers said.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, Port Clinton Police Department, Port Clinton Fire Department, and North Central EMS.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash. However, it is believed that a medical condition was possibly a factor in the crash, troopers said.
