A New London man accused of fracturing a man's jaw has turned down a plea deal.

Nicholas A. Kidd, 25, of 1546 S. U.S. 250, New London, will go to trial today in Huron County Common Pleas Court.

Kidd is charged with felonious assault in connection with a Sept. 24 incident. If convicted of the second-degree felony, he faces two to eight years in prison.

Huron County Prosecutor Russell Leffler declined to disclose the proposed plea deal during Monday's pre-trial hearing.

"We talked about it. We're ready to go to trial," he said.

Huron County Public Defender David Longo said the prosecutor had offered to have the second-degree felony dropped to a misdemeanor.

The New London Police Department investigated the case.

Leffler has said the male victim, who is in his mid-20s, sustained a jaw fracture, which sent him to Fisher-Titus Medical Center. The victim was in the court room for Monday's brief hearing.

Judge Jim Conway said the jurors are supposed to view the suspected crime scene "the first thing Wednesday morning."

Jury selection started this afternoon.

wow, stellar move.

Gone Fishing

Are you kidding me this kid is clueless. They offered to drop it to a misdemeanor and the kid turns it down? Wow now he's putting his freedoom for the next 2-8 yrs in jeapordy wow what a tool.

I Aree!

Don't worry, it's Judge Conway. He'll get sentenced to 4-6 months in CBCF followed by "intense" probation. Justice in Huron County is a joke.

Makes me wander is he sane enough to even stand trial ? I bet when he loses he will regret this guttsy move
And anytime you go before 12 people on a jury you have a 50/50 chance , I dont know about the rest of you , but them ods are that good

well said.

Any of you guys ever think... maybe just maybe he feels he was wrongly charged. Possibly yes he hit the guy, but maybe it was defense? maybe he felt justified? happen, the other guy had a glass jaw or this would have never been "felonious". WHY SETTLE? if you feel your in the right?

Gone Fishing

Why settle? A felony two carries 2-8years a misdeneanor at most 6 months. Witch most wouldn't even serve a month or two for misd assault. And you can bet your sweet arse that he's doing at LEAST 2years if found guilty personally even if I thought it was self defense I would not take the risk.

Well..... others have lives worth living.. a month or 2 in county could make one lose their employment, or business, family may have to use up all savings for survival, while bread winner is in jail on a cope out plea.. etc. etc. but if you don't really have much going on in your life and no fear of losing anything due to not really having anything but time to go "fishin" . because mommy's basement will be there when you get out or your welfare girlfriend shackup will welcome you back.. then sure sit in jail. Dignity goes a long way with me.. Not saying this guy was in the right, but i envy anyone with the courage to stand up for what they believe in. and not cowardly accepting anything. Too many people like you out there, just a part of the crowd ready and willing to have your rights trampled on by someone whose government job (prosecutor) (income) depends on many quick convictions he can push out a month.
