A woman died in a fiery crash after driving the wrong way on Rt. 161 on the northeast side of Columbus early this morning.

Sheena Hickerson, 30, was driving her Lexus east in the westbound lanes of Rt. 161 near Little Turtle Way when she struck the median about 4:15 a.m., said Sgt. Brooke Wilson of the Columbus police accident-investigation unit.

Hickerson’s car struck the blunt end of the concrete wall dividing the ramp from Little Turtle Way to westbound Rt. 161 and caught fire, Wilson said.

Hickerson, of Blaine Drive on the East Side, died at the scene in the 14th fatal crash in Columbus this year.

This was the second wrong-way fatal crash in three days. Early on Saturday, a Gahanna man was killed when his Jeep was struck by a wrong-way driver on I-670 near 3rd Street. Vincent Canzani, 61, died at the scene after the crash at 3 a.m.

The wrong-way driver in that crash, Matthew Cordle, is at Grant Medical Center in fair condition.
