The Elyria post of the state Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle traffic fatality that occurred at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday on Albrecht Road west of West Ridge Road in Lorain County's Elyria Township.

Michael P Lazorcak, 47, of Elyria, was driving a 2000 Chevy Malibu west on Albrecht Road when his vehicle was driven off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole, troopers said. Lazorcak, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected out of the driver’s side door.

Lazorcak was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was transported to the Elyria Memorial Hospital by Great Lakes Ambulance Service.

Alcohol and drug use is suspected as a contributing factor in this crash, troopers said. The investigation is ongoing.
