The Fremont post of the state Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on U.S. 6 just east of County Road 32 in Sandusky County's Scott Township.
John L. Clark, 56, of Huron, was driving a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan west on U.S. 6 at 4:30 p.m. Friday when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound 2010 Ford Escape being driven by Carlla A. Dixon-Bowers, 49, of Lima, troopers said.
The Ford Escape traveled off the south side of the roadway, coming to rest in a ditch. The Dodge Grand Caravan came to rest in the roadway.
Dixon-Bowers, who was not wearing her safety belt at the time of the crash, died at the scene of the crash. Her body was taken to the Lucas County Coroner’s office by Lucas County Transport.
Clark, who was wearing his safety belt, was transported from the scene by a LifeFlight helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, where he died.
Clark's wife and daughter were injured in the crash. Cynthia A. Clark, 55, and Jennifer E. Clark, 25, both of Huron, were transported by ambulance to Fremont Memorial Hospital. Both were wearing safety belts and suffered non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.
John Clark, aka "the Career Guy," was employed as the coordinator of career services at BGSU Firelands, which had a graduation ceremony Friday night.
U.S. 6 was closed to traffic for three hours.
Agencies assisting on scene included the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Department, Helena Fire and EMS and Sandusky County EMS.
