At about 1:50 p.m. Monday, Gary L. Francis, 59, of New Haven, apparently shot and killed himself in his vehicle in the parking lot of the Milan Police Department.

Francis was under investigation for an alleged sex offense involving a 6-year-old child, Milan Police Chief James Rose said. Francis had been asked to come to the station and provide a statement.

Francis parked his car in the parking lot, but did not come into the station.

Rose went out to the car to ask Francis to come in and discovered his body in the front seat of his running car.

An investigation is being conducted by the Milan Police Department and the Erie County Coroner’s Office.

sorry Brenda.. but to call anyone "selfish" and the sad solution to what they perceive to "the answer" should NOT be judged by you. You obviously do not know this person, or even what he was thinking before and at the time of the pulling of the trigger, and to pretend that you do, only makes you "judgmental, and "Pius"... I do think that there are plenty of times when the discussion is open and targeted because of arrogance and the feeling of "superiority".. but if you would like to open the door on your own family "situations" then lets do that, by all means!! I know LOTS of your own family "laundry". and will not hesitate for a second if you would like me to... why not leave this family alone.. it is NOT your place to criticize the actions of anyone, especially someone who is obviously distraught, and not thinking correctly.. it would be the "christian" thing to do after all...

Blue... you were the first to respond to this tragedy.. and in it you called him "selfish".. read it for yourself... so please do NOT say that you "did not call anyone selfish". the point is that no one knows what goes on inside another persons mind, or reasoning.. what happened here ius tragic, I am sure that families are devastated from the entire situation.., so to come in here and belittle the person, and Judge him, without knowing his reasoning, seems harsh and uncalled for.. in my opinion

BlueAngel43

SWISS...if you look...I am BlueAngel43...not just BlueAngel...2 different people... I did not say he was selfish... you need to re read... I didnt think you had the never to do this face to face... you know nothing about my family or what goes on with anyone...just blowing off steam and words!

BlueAngel43

swiss... as I thought... all talk...

swiss family

I must have misunderstood you... are you challenging me to something??? are you threatening me??? sorry... bu grade school, and bully's and beating anyone up were a long time ago... maybe you should grow up... this is supposed to be a place where ADULTS can discuss.. not for immature children to threaten each other..lol

Suicide may seem selfish, and in a way it is, because rather than face the problems/situation, they end their life so they don't have to face it. Is it an admission of guilt? Possibly. Does it show this person had some emotional/mental issues? Absolutely. Suicide is hardest on the survivors because of the many many unanswered questions.

BlueAngel

@commenter.. EXACTLY... it is an admission of guilt...and I do feel sorry for the family/friends left behind... just a selfish act!

swiss family

I have to disagree ... it is NOT necessarily an admission to guilt. and anyone who claims top know differently is either a liar, or terribly misinformed... I would suggest that before you come on here ruining people's reputations, and families, maybe read a Psychology book or two, it is NOT always an admission of guilt, but it is usually a mind that is overwhelmed and discouraged.. and in a small town like this and the surrounding areas, it wouldn't be too far of a stretch to think that anyone would be overwhelmed if they were ACCUSED of sexual misconduct with a child..his name, and family name would be in the local news and the source of gossip and embellishing the facts for a long time... and that in itself is overwhelming... it is NOT an automatic admission of guilt

called out

apparently Swiss knows this person and I think its funny that Swiss is claiming you shouldn't ruin peoples reputation but yet he/she is the first person to jump on here and talk crap about other people. How's it feel to be on the other side Swiss!?? and YES suicide is a cowards way out! So Swiss you are wrong.

BlueAngel43

hi..it's me again... suicide is a chicken's way out!!! they know they did wrong and thats the only way to get out of it... but as one commenter on here said...It's only MY opinion!!!

Sad for the families. If he has children they will not be sleeping much for a while. Regardless of suspicions and rumors. Someone took his own life today with no regard for who he left behind. They will cry and wish could have talked to one who left us for his own reasons. Children just can't understand --- no one can. I am sure he was loved and my heart goes out to his family. I feel sad for the suffering they are enduring. Blessings to them ... this is not the time for debates and wild comments. Let the family grieve in peace.

Not questioning his guilt or innocence.

A question I had as I read the story: Was he about to make a statement to the cops w/o an attorney present?

Reads premeditated; wonder if he left a suicide note?

Look swiss innocent people don't shot themselves right before talking to police. Also if you're going to use religion you might wanna make sure said religion isn't guilty of committing the same crime. I feel sorry for everyone but this coward.

propman

Sitting,
I am not Cathlic but you better remember that it is PEOPLE who commit crimes not a religion.
Why do so many always look somewhere besides the person who commits a crime for an excuse for them.

Sitting In The ...

Come on Prop if you're going to criticize me at least Google the topic so you spell it correctly. Secondly Priests are representatives of the church which is why so many people "look somewhere else" when linking Catholic priest to something else regardless of what it maybe.

swiss family

you are totally misled if you think that you know how every innocent or guilty person acts or reacts....especially anyone with so much on their mind that they are acting on impulse instead of reason... you can say that you think that you would never do something if you were innocent or guilty, but even that statement , made when you were not under the amount of "pressure " that would cause someone to end their life, would mean nothing.. not until you are under the same situation, and trust me, no matter how "Normal" you think you are, if you are under the interrogating public opinion, even if you are innocent, it could cause someone to act on an impulsive way... read about it, you will discover how much you do not know..

Sitting In The ...

Listen Swiss I have one family member battling cancer while another is getting fluid pumped from their lungs...so the next time you want to fail at appearing intelligent take two seconds to consider I speak from experience. I swear you would lose to a rock at a battle of wits.

OHIOHOOSIER76

I pray for the child, the child's family, and his family as all are hurting today.

Suicide not always an act of guilt but rather a feeling that someone gets when they have lost all hope. Anyone who has ever lost a friend or a relative to suicide is left with questions that will never have an answer.

The hate mongering that goes on in the comment section of the Norwalk Reflector is quite bothersome ... and for the record, I do not know any of the people associated with this entire sad situation.
