'Ground Meat Basics' cooking class offered

The Ohio State University Extension office is offering its next cooking class, "Ground Meat Basics," from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Veterans Memorial Lake Park clubhouse. The cost is $6 per person. Register by Friday. The "Parents Night Out" evening is slated for 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday. Children ages 4 to 12 are welcome. All children are asked to wear tennis shoes. The Maple City triathlon is Aug. 11. The course is set at Veterans Memorial Lake Park. The race will consist of an 800-yard swim, 16-mile bike ride and 5-K run. Fees are $40 solo, two-person team $65, and three-person team $95. All participants need to be registered by Aug. 8.

Summer Daze, which is a summer camp for children, will be having registration Aug. 9 for the Aug. 13 to 17 session. Children should wear tennis shoes and bring a sack lunch each day. Children ages 6 to 12 are welcome. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Fees are $80 for members and $95 universal.

An adult softball meeting is slated for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Ernsthausen Community Center meeting room.

An adult flag football meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Ernsthausen Community Center meeting room.

The community center will be hosting the American Red Cross lifeguard course Aug. 17 to 26. The course is about 28 hours and will take place over two weekends. The cost is $75 to the American Red Cross, $65 to the city of Norwalk and $30 to the instructor. Register by Aug. 12.
