A man accused of having a stolen credit card in his possession will be screened for possible intervention in lieu of being convicted.

Kenneth L. Ansel II, 18, of 16 E. Quail Hollow Drive, is charged with receiving stolen property in connection with a Oct. 20 incident. Authorities have said Ansel is an acquaintance of the victim, who had a debit card stolen from her purse.

"He made admissions to using the card at several (businesses) in Norwalk," Norwalk Assistant Law Director Scott Christophel said in October.

At Monday's hearing in Huron County Common Pleas Court, Huron County Assistant Prosecutor Richard Woodruff said the state isn't opposed to Ansel being screened for intervention.

"He doesn't have any prior felonies," Huron County Public Defender David Longo said.

After the results of the screening, the court will schedule a new pretrial hearing and trial date.

Ansel earlier posted 10 percent of a $5,000 bond.

I am sorry, not my fault. My life is so hard. I didn't know any better. You don't understand, my Iphone was broke and I needed a new one and it was just easier to steal a credit card than GET A JOB and pay my own way! I deserve this. I earned it. I am so sorry...........sorry I got caught!

Get an effing life! You come on here and whine and cry about this and that but do you do anything to change it ? Do you even have the know how to change it ? I thought not. So, basically STFU.

ladydye_5

How do we change it? How do we TEACH other peoples children right from wrong? How do we change the CHOICES that other makes? I KNOW how I would LIKE to change it......robbery, drugs, stealing, trafficking, forgery, and other offenses should have PUNISHMENT! These slap on the wrists give the impression that doing the WRONG this isn't so bad.

angelofmercy2973

Excuse Me!!!! But let's let the punishment FIT the CRIME!!! Lets worry about something worst!!! (Like HEROINE!!) Not Some Petty THEFT!!!

ladydye_5

Petty theft? Really. Have you had your credit card stole? Have you been a victim of a robbery, or "petty theft"? Where do you draw the line on what is petty and what is not? Who gets to draw that line? I had someone steal my credit card info. It is not fun. I could care less what the crime is, but there NEEDS to be punishment. This "rehab", or "intense probation" or "what ever you call it" is NOT fixing the problem.

You're a fool. Kenny was buying stuff from stores only to return it a couple minutes later for CASH. Then he was using the cash to buy pills and heroin. No theft is petty, just people. This man deserves to be charged with the FELONY that he COMMITTED. Losing a credit card to some junkies isn't petty- it's ridiculous. Frankly, both Kenny (for receiving the stolen property) and Cody Steele (for handing over the stolen property) should get prison time.

THE ONLY REASON KENNY DOESN'T HAVE ANY 'PRIOR FELONIES' is because he is FRESHLY 18. He's only had a couple of months to rack up any priors. Idiots.

I'm wondering if "petty theft" is anything like the legal term used which is, petit theft?

Ahh yes. Seems to be. Small stuff.
