Eleven arrested for drunk driving during past week

Troopers at one area post nab six men and five women for allegedly operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both.

The Elyria post of the state Highway Patrol made the following OVI (operating vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or a combination of them) arrests over the past week in Lorain County:

Henry Walker, Jr., 54 of Lorain;
Nichole Springer, 32 of Oberlin;
Jerry Boone, Jr. 24 of Elyria;
Mark Smith, 53 of Lorain;
Destiny J. McNeill, 19, of Lorain
Alexa Owens, 22 of Elyria;
Paul E. Wright, 21 of Elyria;
Wilbur E. Blake, 41 of Lorain;
Jenny Rios, 36 of Lorain;
Matthew A. Guggenbiller, 24 of Lorain;
and Angel Figueroa, 42 of Lorain.

This brings the year to date total OVI arrests in that county to 46.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2011, there were 9,878 driving fatalities related to alcohol impairment, accounting for 31 percent of all traffic deaths.

An alcohol-impaired driving fatality is defined as a person killed in a crash involving a driver or motorcycle rider (operator) with a blood-alcohol concentration of .08 percent or greater.
