The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for freezing rain and sleet for Huron County and the surrounding areas that was in effect from 7 p.m. Sunday until 3 a.m. Monday. The advisory has expired, and no further hazardous weather is expected for at least the next seven days.

Also, Huron County Sheriff Dane Howard issued a Level 1 snow emergency. That, too, has expired. In Ohio, there are three levels of snow emergencies, with a level one being the mildest.

Precipitation was expected to build into Northwest Ohio early Sunday night in the form of a mix of freezing rain and sleet. The wintry mix of precipitation was expected to spread east across Northern Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania through Sunday night. Temperatures were expected to be below freezing at the onset of the precipitation, then slowly warm through the night.

A winter weather advisory is normally issued for a variety of winter weather conditions such as light snow, blowing snow, sleet, freezing rain and wind chills. While the weather will be significant, the word advisory implies that severe winter weather is not anticipated.
