Alcohol suspected in Ridge Road fatality

The state Highway Patrol suspects the driver in a Thursday morning crash on Ridge Road that killed a Monroeville man was under the influence of alcohol. Trooper Steve Drew, in his report released today, said there was a blood test performed on the driver, Timothy A. Brant, 26, of 330 Peru Center Road, Monroeville. Brant's brother and passenger, Michael D. Brant, 29, of 2612 Ohio 162, was pronounced dead at the scene by Huron County Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Harwood.

Two witnesses saw both men at a Benedict Avenue bar minutes before the crash, Lt. Jim Bryan said. One of the witnesses reported seeing Timothy Brant consuming alcohol, he added.

Test results for Brant won't be available until about four to six weeks after the patrol subpoenas hospital records, Bryan explained.

The driver, who was wearing his seat belt, was taken from the scene to the Medical University of Ohio Medical Center in Toledo. A Medical University spokesman said the hospital had a listing for Brant, but no condition was available this morning.

"I believe he has been released," Bryan said.

Brant was heading south on Ridge Road near South Norwalk Road about 2:15 a.m. Thursday when he failed to negotiate a curve. He went off the right side of the road and hit a guard rail and bridge, which ripped the 1993 Dodge Intrepid in half from front to back and ejected the passenger, Drew said.

A Norwalk firefighter estimated the passenger, Michael Brant, was thrown about 50 or 60 feet from the car. Troopers haven't determined if he was wearing a seat belt because of the damage to the Intrepid.

Earlier, Sgt. Mary Mack estimated both halves of the vehicle were about 100 feet apart from where the driver left Ridge Road. She said Timothy Brant, the driver, may have had internal injuries to his chest area.

Sgt. Anthony DeChoudens, who arrived first on the scene, spoke to Brant and "detected an odor of alcohol on him," Bryan said.

The post commander said a Mansfield-area trooper has been assigned as a crash reconstructionist to determine speed and make sure "all the I's are dotted and the T's are crossed" because of the severity of the crash.

No charges have been filed in Norwalk Municipal Court, and the investigation is ongoing.

"I'm waiting to hear back from the patrol," Norwalk Law Director Stuart O'Hara said.

their is no third party the sherrif told the family they are going to reinact the crash to eliminate the possibility of a third party and that is what started the confusion

EMT (Anonymous)

Do you realize the car ripped in half 'FROM FRONT TO BACK', ofcourse Tim would have injuries on his right side. Please stop making yoursselves look stupid by saying there is a 3rd person. Accept the fact that Tim was driving and caused this accident.

mike was a lovin person he may have raised some hell every now and then but if you knew him at a personal level you would think differently about him and tim so all of you pencil neck geeks and yuppys who just know them through a police plotter have no right to judge

some body (Anon...

sure tim was driving and they might point blame somewhere else because they dont want to loose another son but he is already serving a life sentence he cant escape from it is called guilt and to make things worse the law will make him serve another it is a tragedy so see any family go through this

Oldest Sister,
Nobody here is proclaiming to be God. Can you show me who's saying that?
Responsible people and their families agree to be accountable for their actions, and they learn from them.
Doesn't sound like that's the case here.
Nearly 60 criminal convictions? Nearly 20 criminal convictions? Sorry, but "the boys" didn't learn a thing.
Yet the family (yes, I know how big you are) keeps blasting everyone here, and making excuses.
I'm guessing this isn't the end of trouble for your family, because no one seems willing to change.
A third party in this case is about as real as a $3 bill.
Oh, and by the way: Lots of people have a rough life, yet they manage to do something productive.
The Brant boys made a poor decision here, and it cost them big time.
some body, I like to raise a little hell and have fun too, but I'm not a career criminal. You just don't get it. It's people like Mike Brant that adversely affect other people's lives.

To Mona & Robinson: Sorry it upsets you that my brother is not currently incarcerated. He has spent time in prison's and jails. He has done the maximum sentences that could be imposed on him at each and every sentencing. The last one being finished 1 1/2 years ago. And he has not had a drop since the night of his 25th one. Will he do it again, more than likely, who knows. I pray not. And I am grateful the only person he ever hurt was himself and our family by the humiliation it has caused us. I also beg to differ with whoever said I was wrong about rehabilitaion. Look on your computer, it is called the Ohio dept. of rehabilation and corrections.

oh (Anonymous)

We all know that prison doesn't "rehabilitate" anybody.

Let me change what I said earlier. Under the name "Brant" in the court's docket, there are 725 entries. I'm not sure if each and every one is related. I bet most of them are. Thats alot of criminal convictions.

some body,

Negative? I'm stating the truth. Of course it's not rosy.

Believe it or not, I do feel bad for the family. A loss of life is a terrible thing.
My point is this: Timothy Brant is not a victim. He's suspected of drunken driving and driving about twice the speed limit. Those actions cost a man his life.
If convicted of applicable charges, he's facing substantial prison time. We live in a society where prison time is given for these types of actions, regardless of how bad the defendant feels. If convicted, I guarantee the judge won't say "No prison time, you've suffered enough." Instead, he'll lecture him on his actions, cite his past criminal record, and impose an appropriate sentence.
Timothy should be thankful it wasn't worse. His actions could've cost more lives. Thank God that didn't happen.

I suppose you could argue Mike was a victim, but then again, he didn't have to get in the car. His last bad decision caught up to him. That's a shame, but again, it shouldn't have happened.
Will this change the ways of some family members? That remains to be seen. It's a perfect example of what can happen when you make poor choices.

has everyone commenting on this forgotten what really happened? Does it matter if Mike's last name is Brant? This
is truely a sad and unfortunate situation. My prayers go out to the Mike's family and friends. This whole event has turned into a reason for people to gossip and cause drama. The truth is that whether Mike was a Brant, or a Smith, he
was still a human being who lost his life. Can you imagine
what his family is feeling right now? Not to mention his brother who has the rest of his life to LIVE with knowing
what he caused? God has a plan for all of us before we are born. He doens't judge by your last name if weather or not
you are allowed to pass through Heaven's gates. The whole
"Brant" bashing is sick. Would all of this have been any more important if Mike and his brother were "Kennedys"?
Just remember that this family is suffering, and continuing
to mention this "3rd" party won't bring Mike back. It simply adds to the "Norwalk" drama. So dragging other people and names into this doesn't change anything. What has happened is done. Let the Brant family grieve over their loss. My prayers are with them!!!!

to somebody..Like you, I didn't even know these comments were on here. And normally I would have never even posted my own. But curiosity got the best of me and I read a few and how could I not defend this family. I'm not defending what happened but the family does not need all this trashing of their family. This is sick and I can not believe how sick some people are. Hope they all get it back in their faces 10 fold....And like you, I'm out of here...these people are disgusting..I can't remember right off the top of my head but one person on here even spoke of cutting off arms and legs of someone on here...I thought Sadamn was put to death, guess I was mistaken???

Robinson, fed up with brants,faithanna-niece to sadd, SADD, Bill, Amen, and Are you Kidding AND TO ALL YOU F'N JERKS -Im sure you have done some illegal things. That doesn't explain what was in the mans heart. He would do anything and everything for the people he cared about. Even you if he saw you were in trouble. The law takes the constitution and switches it around for us to be their content little robots. If you go against it your defined a "criminal" and thats messed up. You here the word criminal and you run for the hills not knowing what they are really like or if they even did it. Judgment is what it all comes down to. And you dont have the right to judge mikey or his family. Tim would never hurt him. As im sure you would never hurt your sibling. They are a family too. They care, protect, and stand by their family just as you would. Tim wasnt so badly hurt (dont get me wrong he was hurt but not the extent of mikey) it was like Tim had a bubble around him and it was just mikeys time to go. THE CAR WAS SPLIT IN HALF PEOPLE. Tim should have been dead too but, it was just mikeys time. Gods wake-up call to Tim and everyone around here. Why scrutinize Gods messenger. Ask someone who goes to the bar if this story doesnt scare them. It could have happened to anyone. ANYONE - Picture this (anyone you love can be the driver) July 4th your at a get together and there is an emergency at your house with your kids. You and whose ever with you, have had a "little bit" to drink but they're your kids so you decide to go home. You try to call a cab but you live to far out and a cab wont take you way out there at 2:00 am. So you go the only way you can to get out there- DRIVE. On your way home you wreck. You or the other person has not had a run in with the law before. You die and the driver is hurt. What is going to happen to the driver? the only thing different about the driver in this story and what happend to them is that -They have priors -and werent going home FOR their kids. They were just going home. Whether they had priors shouldnt matter. It was an accident. An unplanned event. Your comments are just out to hurt people and thats planned. It makes you worse. Shame Fuc**n on you. When you judge your tamperin with peoples hearts and soul. God took mikey away in body but not spirit. He is still with everyone he loves (Tim) and cares about. You people are trying to judge Tim and Mikeys soul on what little you know about them. You should feel ashamed. Really. - Rachel Throw the book- I know David Tiffany and Jessie ALL of which were in that car. This is ridiculous too. They should have deemed her bad driver instead of throwing her in prison for 2 years. I cared for David also but damn the law gets a bit ridiculous with the throwin them in prison. And its all to make you people happy and to feel "safe". (BULLSHIT) What threat did she put on society before that. NONE- she was a high school girl. PEOPLE ALWAYS SAY "WELL IT COULD HAVE BEEN SOME INNOCENT PERSONS LIFE IN ANOTHER CAR" but it wasnt- so let it go. If it didnt happen then dont judge her on what "could" of happend. If you go through something that traumatizing you learn your lesson. your not a killer. Its just a bad day and a bad choice. When she gets out she'll be turning 22. didnt finish high school because they put her in prison. This will be on EVERY application she fills out and for what. All the government wants to do is make you people FEEL "safe". They want to make sure people get justice and blah blah blah. You all here their sentence and think "good, they deserved that" you forget all about them and what happened. They however have to pick up a shattered life and make the best of it while society shoots them down for being a "criminal" BULLSHIT Karma will come back down on your judgments. Just think about all the nasty things you have said. ALL of you should apologize to the FAMILY of Mike Brant. And may you always be judged how you judge others. All my love goes to you Brant Family "

drama (Anonymous)

Anti-Drama: You must be related to them! How could you compare the Kennedys to the Brants? First of all I don't think JFK has 20 or 30 convictions on his record. We're not judging them by their name, we're judging them by their actions! Their past record speaks for it's self! As for the 3rd party, the family started that bull!

About that 3rd ...

The night that accident happened, I was listening to the scanner. They said they had 2 vicitims, and there was possibly a 3rd. They did know who the 3rd one was, and they got a hold of them right away, which meant they had not been with Tim and Mike. It's possible that's where they got the info, but it also proves that the 3rd person was indeed not with them.

K...in Norwalk ...

This is for "Me".....I don't know who you are or nor do I care but if you don't know the Brant family personally then how can you cut them down the way you are? I married a Brant 28 yrs ago and that happens to be my kids last name, they have never been in trouble and I hope they never are. I had no ideal that you could get online and check out everyones records but I have more important things to do then read how many times someone has been in court and for what. How many Smith's, White's, Jones's or whatever are on there? (probably quite a few) so does that mean if someone with those last names would die then they deserve it? I don't think so!!! Mike and Tim both are in the court system but if you knew them I'm betting you would have liked them. I'm not saying what they did was right by all means but nobody deserves to die. (no matter what their name is!!!) It happened so let's let him rest in peace and pray for Tim, because if he was the one driving the car he will suffer for the rest of his life. If you read the paper as well as you keep up with this comment page you will see that it is still under investigation so let's not judge people until the facts are all out. have you ever heard the saying "what goes around comes around" and "don't judge a book by it's cover" well maybe you should think about that. R.I.P Mike!!!!! Oh yeah and Mike did have a diploma ( so he's wasn't as dumb as you might think!!!) and it was buried with him.

anti-drama (Ano...

to drama ( and by the way it is pitiful you have to use somebody's death as drama) if you would have read my
comment correctly you would have understood that the
"Brant-Kennedy" was an anology. I wasn't comparing them.
and like I said who decides which family is more important?
you?...and NO I am not related to any of them. if it makes you feel any better, I've never met any of them! Doesn't mean I am not praying for the family.
with a name of "Drama" how many convictions have you had?
or pardon me, does the Jerry Springer show not count as a conviction? so now we judge people by their past. not who they are, and if they have family who loves them.?
bad things can happen to good people, and good things can happen to bad people. it's life!
prayers to the Brants!!

God (Anonymous)

Nobody should judge them by their last name. But when it comes to past records it proves that the Brants involved here led a lifestyle where something like this was bound to happen sooner or later. If you Brants can't handle all the talk in here I suggest you don't return here as you are only making yourselves look more foolish and feeding the fire. Brants are a family that you don't want to mess with physically but you can beat their asses in a war of words. It is sad what happened but lets all learn a lesson and get some kind of good out of it.

1) an inference that if things agree in some respects they probably agree in others

2) drawing a comparison in order to show a similarity in some respect;

hey jeff (Anonymous)

as to your comment for "K"...did YOU receive a dimpoma?
or a GED? looks like "Norwalk" wasn't ever taught in your

you an Jeff must be related. For people who make "Fun" of the Brants, you also missed a few classes at GED class. No

I'm sure that all of the "good" people of Norwalk like to compare themselves with a family like the Brants, who may not have as much money or education as them, and say "We are such good moral people compared to these guys" But God says that we are all sinners and that none of us are good, no, not one. And also that all of our righteousness is as filthy rags. So, in reality, anyone who has not believed on Jesus Christ and accepted His death as atonement for their sins (because without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins) is in the same moral condition, even if we would like to look at other people and think that we are so good compared to them. It's sad that Michael died, tragic, it really is, I am so sorry for his family and the people that loved him. But listen folks, we are all going to die, and when we do we are going to have to look at God and be judged by Him. And He is not going to ask if we ever got drunk or cheated on our spouse or stole from the office or whatever. He is going to ask if we accepted or rejected Jesus Christ and His shed blood as payment for our sins. Now is the time to choose because as we see with Michael, we could die at any moment, it might not be a drunk driving accident "good" people, but death, I mean what can you do? It's coming and we better be prepared to meet God because He is real and like the Bible says, "I (Jesus) am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; No man cometh unto the Father but by Me."

Brenda (Anonymous)

I can't understand why the heck people worship Jesus. Sure, he was good and died for us, but God is the one to be worshipping. There are lots of people who are just like Jesus, and we don't worship them. We are all god's children. I can tell this will definately have some holy rollers flying off the handle, but I believe that, and you can believe what you want. And I surely will go to heaven, because I am a good person too.

Follower of the...

Brenda- You obviously have no clue what your talking about. When someone worships The Lord it doesn't matter if it's God the Father, God the Son, or God the Holy Spirit, it's all the same. Maybe your not famailiar with the Trinity of the Holy Spirit, 3 parts all the same. Father,Son,and Holy Spirit. You said there are alot of people "just like Jesus" - there may be some good people in the world but I wouldn't say their "just like Jesus" If these are your true beliefs I feel for you. Just because your a good person doesn't mean your going to Heaven, you have to ask The Lord to forgive you of your sins and invite him into your heart. Then you must abstain from those sins and live the life of a Christian. I will pray for God to give you some understanding. Bless You
