The New London school board and the teachers' union have decided to suspend further negotiations until January because the mediator is out of the country, superintendent Carol Girton said. The decision was mutual, she added.

She also cited the upcoming holidays as a reason to suspend negotiations, which have been going well, she said.

The two sides have been meeting since May, before the last one-year contract expired on June 30.

"We'll keep moving forward," Girton said. "I think we've made a lot of progress."

A story about the negotiations was published last week in the Reflector.
