Candace McLaughlin has a state trooper and a retired physician assistant to thank for helping save her life.
The young Vermilion woman was at a loss of words for what Trooper Matthew Gramlich, of the state Highway Patrol, and fellow Vermilion resident Joan O'Malia did for her. But she is grateful.
Her mother, Glenna, also is grateful. "It means a lot that there are people who are willing to stop and help," she said.
McLaughlin's family were on the way to Cedar Point on Sept. 9 when McLaughlin suddenly went into cardiac arrest. They stopped the vehicle on Baumhart Road at Ohio 2 where Gramlich had responded to a disabled vehicle.
"It came all at once," McLaughlin's mother said about her daughter's medical emergency.
