The Norwalk post of the state Highway Patrol is currently investigation a one-vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred on Ohio 4 just north of U.S 20.

The crash occurred about 2:20 a.m. today and involved a northbound 1998 Plymouth Voyager GSX Minivan, which traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a culvert and overturned, troopers said. The two occupants of the vehicle were seriously injured, and one later died for injuries sustained in the crash.

James Bocek, 26, of Oklahoma, was trapped in the vehicle and was freed by mechanical means by Bellevue firefighters. He was not wearing a safety belt and was flown from the scene by LifeFlight helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Hospital Medical Center in Toledo, troopers said. He died at 5:30 p.m. today.

The other occupant was identified as Clay A. Humphries, 24, whose last known address was in Galena, Ohio. Humphries, who also had not been wearing a safety belt at the time of crash, was found outside the vehicle, troopers said. Humphries was transported to The Bellevue Hospital by an North Central EMS ambulance and later flown by LifeFlighted to St. Vincent.

Troopers are trying to determine who had been driving the vehicle. Alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash, they said.

Agencies that assisted troopers at the scene included Huron County Sheriff’s Office, Bellevue Police Department, North Central EMS, and Dendinger Towing Service.
