A Norwalk teen was killed in a traffic crash early this morning.

The accident took place at 1:08 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Medusa Road in Townsend Township, said troopers with the Norwalk post of the state Highway Patrol.

Tyller A. Myers, 19, of Norwalk, was killed.

Troopers reported that Myers was southbound on Medusa in a red F-150 pickup truck when he failed to yield at the stop sign and collided with a westbound 2008 Peterbilt tractor-trailer being driven by Kevin P. Heter, 53, of Clyde.

Both vehicles went off the southwest side of U.S. 20, coming to a rest in a cornfield.

Myers was pronounced dead at the scene by Huron County Coroner Jeff Harwood. Heter was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo with non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.

The accident, which closed U.S. 20 for close to an hour, remains under investigation.

Assisting troopers at the scene were the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, Townsend Township Fire Department, Citizen’s EMS, North Central EMS, St. Vincent LifeFlight, the Ohio Department of Transportation and Northside Towing.

Thank you all for the kind comments. I am part of Tyler's family, I am a great uncle and as I sit here with tears streaming down my face over this tragedy, I can tell you I have never been so saddened by a death in our family as this young mans. Again I want to thank all for the kind words. Those of you who want to bash life flight for taking this driver to the hospital, think how much worse our family would be feeling now if for some unseen reason a second life had been lost at this awful accident scene because a few feel that this life saving action was money driven and he didn't get to the hospital in time and may have had some internal tear that would have caused his death also. Were any of us there at the scene to make this decision??????? No none of us were there. I for one am glad that this man got the care he needed. Our family is so saddened that this awful thing had to happen to this man, what an awful thing he has to live with for the rest of his life, so please no more crap about the life flight decision, leave that to the life saving team to determine who should or who should not be flown to medical attention. None of us can undo this awful thing that has happened, only hope and pray that no other family has to go through what we have gone through on this very sad day in our lives. Yes the tears are still flowing, I have no idea when they will stop.

Something this article forgot to mention is that THEY FOUND STOP SIGNS IN THE BACK OF THIS KIDS TRUCK???! Hmmm out at 1am stealing signs? Running from someone?? Things just arent adding up here!@

Really?!!! Who cares! A young man lost his life in a horrific car accident its a tragedy and unfortunate. Do any of you who put negative or bashful remarks think that my family and his friends read the comments? He was my family and it saddens me that I and his mother and father have to read about people bashing their son on Norwalk Reflector. You people don't have a shred of empathy in your body and should just shut your mouth and let the family grieve. So disrespectful shame on you people.

Psychmajor27

I have to also add this. He was coming home from work. He text his father a half hour at 12:30 and told him how much he loves him and how happy he was at his job. He was not out stealing stop signs you ignorant fool. He was coming home from work when this happened. Who is your source that they found stop signs in the back of his truck. I'd really like to know why you feel this is so relevant to a young man dying in a horrific ACCIDENT and that is what it was.

m...w...k

my source they found stop signs was the norwalk reflector. ignorant fool. what was your source that "he was not out stealing stop signs"

The blood alcohol content level of Tyller A. Myers, 19, of 4649 En Road, tested at .164, according to troopers with the Norwalk post of the state Highway Patrol. That's more than twice the legal limit for drivers in Ohio of .08. During the investigation, troopers discovered three stop signs and posts in Myers' truck.

After seeing the pictures of the accident, I find it hard to believe that anything would still be in the back of the truck.

frootloops420

STOP. have some cooth. have some respect for someone you rude fool. if you don't have anything nice to say, stay the hell away.

Maybe he stole that stop sign at the intersection and forgot about it, That would explain him not stopping.

frootloops420

I CANNOT BELEIVE YOU PEOPLE. THE RUDENESS COMING FROM YOU GUYS IS BLOWING MY MIND! GET LOST.

This is true. I heard That he was stealing stop signs and backtracked Then ran one of the stop signs he stole. Who knows why he did it, but he could have killed someone else. karma worked real fast.

firefghter19

Just for the record stop signs were still in place on both sides of that intersection. Whether he was or wasnt stealing stop signs is purely speculation. That information has not been made public nor is this the place to condem an individual for actions which are based soley on speculation, rumor and or heresay. Whoever is giving you that information should keep their mouths shut as this accident is still under investigation and any information which is pertinant to that investigation should be kept quiet by those who were present at the scene especially if those individuals happen to emergency responders. This is not the place to make accusations regarding information which may or may not be true and those of you making such comments should be ashamed of yourselves for slandering this young man before his family members with information you know nothing about!

What is left to investigate?

crazystuff18

I think that why would you do something so childlish! I truly feel no sadness only for the trucker! He has to live with something that is not his fault! I know for sure he was stealing the signs thank you very much!!

Tyllersmom4ever

were you there? did you see him do this with your own two eyes? I will never again see my child and all you can do is sling accusations?

I swear the same 5 white trash posters are always on here posting things that should not be posted when someone dies.

luvblues2

The NR did have a post up for a very short time this early AM stating that he did in fact have three stolen stop signs in his truck. I don't understand the logic in stealing road signs. Perhaps someone could enlighten me?

Tyllersmom4ever

Correction, the post stated he was "suspected" of this alleged crime!
