NORWALK - Construction on the $4 million track expansion project at Summit Motorsports Park is on schedule, according to Bill Bader, Jr., president of the facility.

The Bader family will unveil its new facility formerly Norwalk Raceway Park at Saturday's season opener. Coupons for free tickets to Saturday's event will be available in the Thursday and Friday editions of the Norwalk Reflector.

In August 2006 the track announced a major expansion project, including the addition of luxury suites, a state-of-the-art media center, extensive paving in the new pro pit area, expanded parking, more office space, new night lighting and other improvements. The track is preparing for the inaugural Summit Racing Equipment National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Nationals June 28 to July 1.

The NHRA race is the 12th race of the 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

"We're 'full speed ahead' with our planned expansion, and are very excited with the progress we've made," Bader said. "We had an unseasonably warm November and December and that helped us get a great head start. There's a lot of work being done on the office area right now and we have to talk over a lot of construction noise, but that's fine because it's looking like the finished product will turn out better that we expected."
