I had the chance Monday to walk around a bit of Cedar Point and see how things are shaping up before the park opens May 12.
I had a Cedar Point season pass in 2001, 2002 and 2003, but haven't had one since. This year, I believe we might get them again.
I do like going to the park and love the rides. My son Thomas, who just turned 4, is already talking about how much fun he wants to have at Cedar Point this summer.
On May 10, Cedar Point will have it's annual Media Day and this one should be a real winner as the park debuts Maverick.
I saw Maverick up-close Monday and can't wait to ride it next month. Just check out the picture of the ride's first hill on this page.
Maverick will have to be pretty good, though, to top Millennium Force, which I think still is the best ride at the park. Nothing better than sitting in the back car on the Millennium and practically being snapped over that first hill.
The Millennium Force, which debuted in 2000, still has people running to ride it as the park opens.
The Raptor, which gave its first ride in 1994, is also a winner. What I like about Raptor is the line isn't normally too long. I also enjoy the final spins at the end of the ride where it feels like your face is coming off.
Other favorite rides are the Magnum XL200, which has been around since 1989, and the Power Tower, that opened in 1998. Power Tower is truly something else. I remember the first time I dropped on that thing my stomach was left up top.
I've only ridden the Top Thrill Dragster once and that was on Media Day in 2003. That ride was incredible. I know it had some running trouble early on, but I believe those kinks have been worked out.
I hear the Demon Drop still is for sale. Wouldn't the Demon Drop make a great backyard playset? I'm sure village of Monroeville officials wouldn't mind if I set up the Demon Drop in my yard, right by the water tower.
I know some people complain Cedar Point tickets are too expensive or the food costs too much at the park. Come on, it's an amusement park. The park is in business to make money and it also puts money back into itself. Maverick came with a $21 million price tag.
I think Halloweekends are a neat thing for children and am looking forward to taking mine on those weekends this fall.
