Two local boys were injured after a head-on collision involving two four-wheelers this weekend.
Huron County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Ted Patrick said the accident happened in a field behind the residence at 4803 Hartland Center Road in Collins. A deputy, the Townsend Township Volunteer Fire Department, a LifeFlight helicopter and North Central EMS responded to a call to the sheriff's office, which came in about 9:15 p.m.
Two boys were involved: Kyle Leimeister, 9, of 4803 Hartland Center Road, Collins; and Wyatt Pleska, 10, of 4298 Zenobia Road, Wakeman, Patrick said. He said each of the boys were coming around a curve in opposite directions and appeared to hit each other's four-wheelers head-on.
"LifeFlight came to (transport) one of the boys," Patrick said, referring to Leimeister, who went to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Leimeister was listed in fair condition Monday night.
North Central EMS transported Pleska to Fisher-Titus Medical Center. Patrick didn't have specific information on the extent of the boys' injuries, but said Pleska's were less severe than Leimeister's.
"Both were wearing helmets," the sheriff's spokesman added.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
