A local assault defendant who missed his sentencing hearing was expected to be transported to the Ottawa County Detention Facility soon.
The Norwalk Police Department arrested Alan M. Schuh, 30 of 51 Jefferson St., at his home on an Ottawa County Common Pleas Court bench warrant at 11:12 a.m. Wednesday. He was charged with failure to appear for a sentencing hearing on the conviction of attempted aggravated assault.
Schuh appeared Thursday morning in Huron County Common Pleas Court.
Huron County Public Defender David Longo said the defendant had been juggling court dates since in addition to the sentencing hearing, Schuh is going through a divorce and there's also a pending juvenile court matter. Schuh also is working in Willard. Longo said Schuh notified the Ottawa County probation office about missing his July 24 sentencing hearing and reportedly arranged for police to pick him up.
"He doesn't have a prior criminal record I am aware of," the public defender added.
"We were told Ottawa County was coming right away to get him," Huron County Assistant Prosecutor Daivia Kasper said.
If Schuh posts a $5,000 bond, he must report to Ottawa County Common Pleas Court by 9 a.m. today. A further local hearing, if required, is set for 1 p.m. Monday.
