The Ohio Inspector General on Tuesday issued a report of investigation that reviewed allegations of mismanagement at Malabar Farm State Park, a division of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
The inspector general received a complaint alleging the manager of the historic park improperly transferred ownership of items owned by the state. The complainant also expressed concern about the care of livestock, deteriorating electric services on the property, and health hazards posed by an open water source.
The manager of the state park did admit transferring the state’s ownership of a bell, and bricks salvaged from a walkway renovation without following state law, which calls for specific procedures to prevent waste, theft, or abuse.
The Ohio Department of Agriculture did not find livestock at the farm were neglected, nor did the Ohio Department of Commerce find serious deficiencies in the condition of the electrical services. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has made recommendations to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to abate access to a spring on the property which was shown to be contaminated.
