Slain woman's mother was murder-suicide victim

TNS Regional News • Apr 18, 2014 at 7:07 PM

A woman who died in a shooting early yesterday at her North Side apartment complex had lost her mother in a murder-suicide five years ago.

Columbus police had not made any arrests as of yesterday evening in the shooting of Katrina K. Gregory, 31, who died at 6:29 a.m. at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center.

Officers were sent at 11:50 p.m. Wednesday to the East Worthington Village Apartments after residents reported hearing a single gunshot and seeing a person on the ground.

“I was in the hallway, and I heard the shot and I ran in the apartment,” said one 911 caller, who would not give her name.

Police found Gregory outside her apartment building at 879 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. She had been shot in the head. A witness reported seeing a man and a woman run from the complex just after the shooting.

Attempts to reach Gregory’s family were unsuccessful yesterday.

Gregory’s mother was killed in December 2008 in a murder-suicide in Madison County. West Jefferson police at the time said Mary Kington, 56, was strangled by her boyfriend of seven years, Teddy Thompson. Thompson then shot himself, in what investigators described as a carefully planned crime to end a long-troubled relationship.

Anyone with information on Gregory’s death is asked to contact the Columbus police homicide squad at 614-645-4730 or Crime Stoppers at 614-645-TIPS.
