A serious injury crash temporarily closed Conwell Avenue in Willard early Friday.
A LifeFlight helicopter flew Brian Leggett, whose age and address weren't provided, from the scene to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. A hospital spokesman said as of early Friday afternoon, he was listed in critical condition in the neural unit in the intensive care unit.
"They (LifeFlight) landed right at the scene. It looked like a pretty bad accident," Willard Police Chief Mark Holden said.
While the chief didn't have any information about Leggett's condition, Holden said it sounded as if the driver was in "very critical condition" at the scene.
The accident happened at 3:44 a.m. on Conwell Avenue/Ohio 99. The crash remains under investigation.
Holden said the driver went off the road and hit two utility poles and two outbuildings at RR Donnelly.
Huron County EMA sent out an email alert at 6:12 a.m., saying Conwell Avenue was closed between Fort Ball Road and Earl Street. Traffic was detoured around the city block of Fort Ball Road to Crestwood Drive to Earl Street.
Conwell re-opened about 8:30 a.m.
Willard Fire & Rescue sent eight firefighters and an ambulance to the crash site. Chief Joe Reiderman said the crew handled traffic control until the road was open.
