Ohio Edison is reporting that there are 10 to 14 poles are "down" (not transmitting power) throughout Norwalk.

Crews are working on the problem. Some residents will have power restored today, and the hope is that power will be restored to everyone by the end of tomorrow.

The storm damage and most of the outages follow a path of the blocks along the north side of Main Street from Pleasant Street to Old State Road, city Safety-Service Director Bob Patusky said.

According to Ohio Edison's website, there are multiple power outages reported within the city of Norwalk, more than 20 outages just northeast of the city, up to 20 outages in the city of Bellevue, and at least two in Monroeville and Wakeman.

Jason Roblin, Huron County emergency management agency director, reported there are about 800 homes without power in Norwalk as of 9:15 a.m.

Roblin said the National Weather Service is reporting that straight-line winds are the likely source of the damage, adding winds have been reported at 80 to 90 mph, with some possibly more than 100 mph in certain locations.

Roblin said the damage is centered in Norwalk.

"There are about three or four road closures around the county due to trees or power lines being down," he added. "There are no reports of homes or businesses being damaged around the county, just in Norwalk."

Roblin said Ohio Edison might have a difficult time in some areas replacing power poles.

"Some of these poles are located at the back of lots and the ground is soggy, which will make for slow going."

Anyone without power or in need of food or shelter due to the storm can call the Firelands chapter of the American Red Cross at (800) 589-2286.

Mayor Rob Duncan said no injuries have been reported.
