A man serving a prison term for an Erie County conviction pleaded guilty Tuesday to possession of heroin.

Brian J. Maynard, 31, will serve his local, 11-month prison term at the same time he serves a 20-month sentence at the Lorain Correctional Institution. He was convicted of two counts of non-support of dependents.

The new prison term was part of joint recommendation between Huron County Assistant Prosecutor Richard Woodruff and Huron County Public Defender David Longo.

Maynard's local conviction is for an April 14 incident. Woodruff said Norwalk police found .01 grams of heroin on Maynard's possession while he was being searched as part of an arrest on a Norwalk Municipal Court warrant.

"It was residue on cotton," Longo added during the hearing, which was held Tuesday in Huron County Common Pleas Court.
