Motorist killed in crash

The Sandusky post of the state Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday on Ohio 4 at Strecker Road in Erie County’s Groton Township.

John M. Klish, 88, of Mansfield, was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer west on Strecker Road when he failed to yield at a posted stop sign at the Ohio 4 intersection, troopers said. Klish’s vehicle was struck on the left front side by a northbound 2002 Subaru Outback being driven by Robin Reaves, 40, of Tiffin.

The collision sent both vehicles off the northwest side of the intersection and into a field.

Klish, who had been wearing his seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Erie County coroner.

Reaves, who also had been wearing her seatbelt, received incapacitating injuries as a result of the crash, troopers said. She was flown by a LifeFlight helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Department, Groton Township Fire Department and LifeFlight assisted troopers at the scene.
