'Great day' planned in Norwalk

Norwalk Mayor Sue Lesch said Saturday will be a great day for the city with the grand opening of the Suhr Family Park and celebration of Main Street Norwalk's 10th anniversary.

A Party in the Park will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Uptown Norwalk.

"I invite all of the Norwalk community to come out and say thanks," the mayor said. "Bob Suhr was a very kind and humble man. He was very successful in his insurance business in California and very active in his community. Yet he had such great love for his hometown. Imagine, Bob left Norwalk in the '40s and 70 years later wanted to give back to the community he still called home.

"We had many conversations over the four years it took to find a site and build his park. I am so sorry that he will not be here to celebrate the dedication on Saturday but 12 members of his family are coming."
