Order in the court: Local students get taste of legal world

Listening to the attorneys and witnesses, it would have been hard to tell they weren't the real thing.

There were opening statements, expert witnesses, objections, rebuttals, cited court cases and closing arguments. The participants sounded as professional as they looked.

Friday's proceedings in Huron County Common Pleas Court culminated three-plus months of work for the mock trial teams from six area high schools, including Edison and St. Paul. Hosted by the Huron County Bar Association, the county has hosted the Ohio High School Mock Trial Competition for at least the last 15 years.

St. Paul brought two teams totaling 19 students; "Golden" earned enough points to advance to the regionals in the 28th annual event, as did Galion High School.
