More than $5,000 of tools and prize packages will be given away at Tool Time from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the St. Paul Convocation Center.
A $5 admission ticket, available at the door, will serve as entry into numerous prize drawings and get visitors a lunch of brats and beer or pop. In only it's fourth year, the event is the largest annual fundraiser for the United Fund. All money raised goes directly to the United Fund to support local organizations.
Ken Russ and Cal Shullick are co-chairing the event for United Fund.
Russ said the event it a great fundraiser that has something for everyone "You're giving something to us. We're giving something back to you. Everyone's giving something to the community," he said.
Russ, also first vice president for the board, said Tool Time originally was developed as a way to tap local contractors and related businesses for contributions to the community.
"We were challenged about four years ago to get local contractors more involved in United Fund," he said. "We decided to hold a tool party." Businesses donate tools and money and then can set up displays and booths to showcase their products to the community.
"The first year we raised $7,500, the second year $10,000 and last year $13,000," Russ said. "It has quickly become the largest fundraiser for the United Fund. Hopefully it'll be more this year."
As the number of sponsors and visitors grew, the organizers had to look for a new location. With about 500 people attending last year, the Expo building at the Huron County Fairgrounds was packed. Russ said they moved the event to the convocation center because Tool Time continues to grow.
"We've got more than 70 sponsors," Russ said. "We've been able to collect all kinds of good quality tools again Bosch, Dewalt, Craftsman, Milwaukee. We've got more sponsors, more tools, more chances to win."
He has put together more than 265 buckets with tools, T-shirts and prize packages which will be given away throughout the afternoon. Prizes worth at least $50 will be given away every 15 minutes and grand prize tool packages will be given away on the hour a $250 prize at 2 p.m., a $500 package at 3 p.m. and a $1,000 package at 4 p.m. Winners must be present to receive the prizes.
The event also will include 50/50 raffles throughout the afternoon, and a Canadian auction with tickets dropped in bags.
