MILAN - Authorities were forced to close a 27-mile stretch of the Ohio Turnpike because of a passing storm Friday night. Two minor property damage crashes occurred from vehicles hitting storm debris on the road.
The storm passed through the area about 9:30 p.m., damaging a large, high-voltage metal tower that supported power lines crossing the turnpike. Lt. John Maxey, the Milan post commander of the state Highway Patrol, said the lines supported by the tower dropped to an unsafe height over the turnpike and forced the roadway to be closed.
