The Ohio for Hillary campaign stopped in Norwalk Monday to promote Hillary Clinton with just one week to go before the March 4 Ohio primary.
An economic “Travelers for Hillary” tour is making its way through Ohio. The two-day tour, which concludes today, had scheduled stops in Toledo, Fremont, Port Clinton, Sandusky, Norwalk, Elyria, Richfield, Medina, Wooster, Mount Vernon and Newark.
On the trip were three business and union leaders: Christine Pambianchi, vice president, human resources at Corning Inc. in Corning, N.Y.; Garry Douglas, president and CEO of the Plattsburgh North County Chamber of Commerce; and Ed Abounader, president, American Federation of Government Employees, Rome, N.Y.
“She understands what it takes to sustain and promote manufacturing in the United States,” Douglas said.
Kris Balderston, Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, said through Clinton’s efforts 3,000 jobs were saved in New York, including 800 at a pharmaceutical plant in Plattsburgh.
“She put us in touch with a group of entrepreneurs who were looking for exactly what we had,” Douglas said. “A new pharmaceutical company came in and bought the plant saving over 800 jobs. Without Hillary’s leadership our community would have been deviated.”
Abounader said Clinton saved a Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) base in Rome, while Pambianchi said Clinton started a push to persuade China to relax tariffs on Corning’s fiber optics products, which “saved jobs for our company and the region.”
“She also led the way in promoting a new program to use our environmentally friendly diesel filter technology in school buses across the region, which has become a huge success,” Pambianchi said. “Not only does it create green jobs, it makes for a healthier and cleaner environment for our children.”
All three volunteers are part of a larger “Travelers for Hillary” group made up of more than 60 upstate New York business and union leaders, farmers and wine growers. The group already has toured Iowa, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Wisconsin on behalf of Clinton.
