What's behind threat at Christie Lane?

Norwalk Reflector Staff • Oct 29, 2015 at 12:00 PM

This letter concerns Shirley Dennison and her arrest for purportedly making threats at Christie Lane.

My brother has attended Christie Lane for more than 40 years. I believe that the services provided for the disabled there and by similar programs throughout the state are both necessary and an obligation of our society.

Violence is never acceptable and the threat of violence can never be condoned.

However, people in Huron County should be left wondering what prompted an elderly woman to be so frustrated that she would supposedly threaten violence. We will never know many things about her child's care, because those facts are hidden under an umbrella of confidentiality that covers the disabled.

Citizens often are frustrated with the bureaucratic machine. They wonder if someone is listening. They are unsure if anyone cares when they identify problems or feel changes are needed.

The real question to this story is whether, or not, this women's child is receiving the help and care that is needed, and Christie Lane is obligated to provide.
